Divorce & Separation Support

While I offer support for numerous challenges, such as anxiety, depression, stress and guilt, my specialty focus is supporting individuals who are going through or contemplating separation or divorce.

Relationship transitions can be immensely trying; there can be a lot of emotions ranging from betrayal, sadness and anger to anxiety, depression or relief and everything in between. The exit of a close partnership or relationship can leave us feeling vulnerable, and often family, friends and community, while they may have good intentions, can offer support in ways that may also make us feel guilty or small for our circumstances. Not to mention balancing the demands of parenting children who are also processing the changes to their family structure.

Those who become involved in protracted court proceedings can experience immense personal challenges as the family court process in Ontario is often long and can be drawn out and highly combative. As well, being in an adversarial situation with someone who once held a high amount of trust and safety can be difficult at best. Gaslighting, narcissism, lying, misconstrued statements, and mud-slinging can leave you feeling exhausted, frustrated, and questioning everything. Furthermore, there is a significant element of uncertainty and loss of control as the judicial system begins to make orders and recommendations.

I can help by offering a safe space to express and process the situation in a manner that is supportive and non-judgemental. We can also develop a plan to incorporate coping strategies to support your wellbeing when facing ongoing challenges and attend to the emotional trauma that may exist. Together we can find a way to support your mental wellbeing in a way that makes sense for you, to ease the stress, and make sense of some of the feelings that may be coming up. Lightening the load of the situation and helping you regain a sense of stability.
